Method and device for automatically determining the modulation transfer function of focal plane array cameras

A test grid (1) having an image with a spatial frequency is provided in the detector plane which is detuned with respect to Nyquist frequency of a detector array of a camera (4), to generate a beat with amplitude corresponding to the grid image, without sampling the modulation transfer function. The grid covers a range of half beat period, to determine modulation amplitude regardless of actual phase position. An Independent claim is also included for automatic modulation transfer function determination apparatus.
