The opposite edges of the laundry items, conveyed to the mangle via a feeder unit (10), are smoothed out between opposite edge smoothing devices (26). Each device is equipped with at least one rotating belt (27) with bristles that preferably project across the laundry item plane. The exposed edge sections of a laundry item are preferably smoothed out in lower smoothing means located in a gap of a feeder unit conveyor (13) positioned under the laundry item. After the smoothing of the edges, the laundry item is moved on between a top conveyor (14) and a bottom conveyor (13). An Independent claim is made for the associated laundry feeding installation.
