TARGET GENES FOR THE DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OF CANCER

The present invention relates to the identification and use of target genes for the detection and treatment of drug-resistant tumor cells. The nucleic acids of the present invention exhibit a deregulated phenotype when the tumor cells are subjected to cytostatic drugs, i.e. they are expressed in a higher or lower amount as compared to parental drug-sensitive cancer cells. Thus, they can be used as a diagnostic and pharmaceutical tool to render drug­ resistant cells drug-sensitive. In addition, the present invention includes the polypeptides to encoded by the respective nucleic acids, expression vectors harboring the nucleic acids, host cells for expression and methods for the diagnosis and treatment of drug-resistant tumor cells.
