A system and method for extracting and processing three-dimensional graphics data generated by OpenGL or other API-based graphics applications for conventional two-dimensional monitors so that the data can be used to display three-dimensional images on a three-dimensional volumetric display system, includes an interceptor module to intercept instructions sent to OpenGL and extraction of data based on the intercepted instructions for use by the volumetric display system.
