The internal combustion engine (1) has a cooling water guiding system for cooling of the cylinder head (3) and with several coolant passages orientated transversely to the engine's longitudinal direction from the outlet side (50) to a circulating passage system of the combustion chambers. A coolant distribution passage (14) is constructed on the outlet side of the engine between the cylinders and crankcase (2) side faces and into it runs a coolant feed passage (13). At least one outlet (20-23) from the coolant distribution passage is formed in the crankcase.
