Electric cable with an insulation layer consisting of a radiation-crosslinked, halogen-free flame-resistant polymer network based on a mixture of (a) 5-50 wt% HDPE with a density of at least 0.94 g/cm3, (b) 1-50 wt% polyethylene with a density below 0.910 g/cm3, 30-70 wt% fire retardant, (d) 1-40 wt% coupling agent and (e) 0.1-10 wt% stabiliser system. Independent claims are also included for (1) a crosslinkable, halogen-free, flame-resistant mixture as above, especially for electric cables (2) a method for the production of electric cables by extruding the insulating material onto an electrical conductor which has been preheated to at least 50degreesC
