Methods for maintaining prepaid account information and for supporting transactions in an e-Commerce system

The authentication request containing information such as customer identification and account code is received from the service provider and the subscriber status of the customer is determined. The authentication/non-authentication message is sent to the service provider based on the determined subscriber status. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) method of performing balance request operation in electronic commerce (e-commerce) system; (2) method of performing debit request operation in e-commerce system; and (3) method of performing credit request operation in e-commerce system.
