A photosensitive resin printing plate original, capable of forming protrudent relief images without the need to use any original picture film. In particular, a photosensitive resin printing plate original comprising a support and, sequentially superimposed thereon, a photosensitive resin layer (A) comprising a resin soluble or dispersible in water and a monomer hardenable by ultraviolet irradiation and a water-insoluble thermosensitive mask layer (C) containing an infrared absorptive substance. Introduction of a crosslink structure or hydrophobic component in the thermosensitive mask layer (C) so as to render the same insoluble in water enables preventing mass transfer between the layer (A) and layer (C) due to the difference in polarity therebetween, and further facilitates handling of original plate due to the marked improvement of damage resistance of the thermosensitive mask layer (C).
