The invention relates to a method of mounting a catalyst body (7), such as a ceramic catalyst body, in a tube or, more specifically, a cylindrical tube which is intended to define the case (2) of the catalyst (1), which is to be inserted in an exhaust line of a motor vehicle. The inventive method is characterised in that: several measurements of the section of the catalyst body (7) are taken along the length thereof; the tube is adapted according to the section measurements which can be taken either before or after the catalyst body (7) has been inserted therein as applicable, said body being optionally enclosed in a mounting liner; the tube is adapted through the restriction and/or expansion thereof, either along part or all of the length of the catalyst body (7); and said restrictions and/or expansions are performed along the tube in a localised manner in line with the section measurements taken previously along the length of the catalyst body (7) and in accordance with said measurements. |
