<p>When a pulsed voltage is applied to a drive electrode (4), an electric field is concentrated in the vicinity of a slit, producing a field emission phenomenon. The emitted electrons are applied through an electrically conductive coating layer (6) and an electron passage layer (7) to a fluorescent layer (8) when a bias voltage is applied to a transparent electrode (9). The fluorescent layer (8) is excited to emit light through the transparent electrode (9) as indicated by the arrows. Light-emitting devices (1) may be arranged in a two-dimensional array, providing a field emission display.</p> |
