The invention relates to a method for transmitting packet data (PDU) in a communications system (UMTS, GPRS) between a transmitter (BS; MS) and a receiver (MS; BS). The aim of the invention is to ensure correct processing of such packet data. To this end, the packet data (PDU) are repeatedly transmitted by the transmitter (BS; MS) and are received by the receiver (MS: BS) as data received earlier (x) or data received later (y). A diversity combination (MRC) of the data received earlier (x) and the data received later (y) is performed to reconstruct the transmitted data packet (PDU).
