PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain the consistent amount of fuel actually fed in a combustion chamber when an internal combustion engine is started, to enhance the startability, and to improve emission. SOLUTION: In the fuel injection timing of an internal combustion engine 1 in which the fuel is injected from an injector 7 when an intake valve is closed before the intake stroke, in particular, at the fuel injection start timing when the internal combustion engine 1 is started, there occurs a phenomenon that a wall surface is easily wet because the wall surface or the like of an intake manifold 6 is cold. By expediting the fuel injection start timing by a predetermined time in addition to the injection and feed of the fuel considering the wall surface wetness, the temporal margin is increased before the fuel is introduced in the combustion chamber of the internal combustion engine 1, and the fuel amount to be fed actually in the combustion chamber becomes consistent. As a result, the startability of the internal combustion engine 1 is enhanced, and emission is improved thereby. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
