PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a catalyst composition for the catalytic decomposition of hydrocarbons which is used in the fluidized catalytic cracking of heavy hydrocarbons such as hydrocarbons, especially crude oil containing metal pollutants such as nickel and vanadium, vacuum gas oil, hydrogenation oil, ordinary pressure residual oil, and vacuum residual oil, produces small amounts of hydrogen and coke even when a large amount of nickel is deposited on the catalyst composition, has an excellent residual oil (bottom) cracking capacity, and can improve the yields of gasoline, kerosene and gas oil. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the catalyst composition for the catalytic cracking of hydrocarbons, crystalline alumino-silicate zeolite (1), hydrated alumina (2) prepared by adding an acid to pseudo boehmite type alumina hydrate whose crystallite diameter is greater than 105Åand adjusting pH 1.0-6.0, and a silicic acid liquid (3) prepared by adding an acid to water glass and adjusting pH 1.0-2.5 are mixed, and the obtained mixture is spray-dried.
