Use of a thrombolytic agent and an NR2B subtype selective NMDA receptor antagonizing compound in combination for the treatment of stroke and traumatic brain injury

A thrombolytic agent and a NR2B subtype selective NMDA receptor antagonizing compound, wherein the active agents are present in amounts that render the combination of the two agents effective in treating hypoxic or ischemic stroke, are used in the manufacture of a medicament for treating hypoxic or ischemic stroke. Preferably the thrombolytic agent are selected from tissue plasminogen activator (TPA), urokinase, prourokinase and streptokinase.
