PURPOSE: An LCD screen control method and a mobile communication terminal using the same are provided to reduce consumption of battery current by automatically turning off an LCD screen while the LCD screen is not in use. CONSTITUTION: When a mobile communication terminal is turned on(310), an illumination threshold value is inputted(320). An optical sensor measures ambient illumination of the mobile communication terminal and transfers an illumination value to a controller(330). If the illumination value is smaller than the illumination threshold value, the controller turns off a display unit which outputs an image through an LCD screen(350) and determines whether there is a signal input to turn off the mobile communication terminal(360).
