<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify the manufacturing process of a monolithic optical interference element, to improve structural inconvenience for handling the element, and to stably obtain a desired oscillation frequency. <P>SOLUTION: Each of the two arms in a Mach-Zehnder interferometer are provided with a nonlinear gain medium 1 which induces optical changes in the refractive index so as to generate mode synchronized laser oscillation in the Mach-Zehnder interferometer by the nonlinear gain medium 1. The monolithic optical interference element includes an optical waveguide 5 to introduce external light 9 into the Mach-Zehnder interferometer, and the both end faces of the cavity determining the oscillation frequency of the mode synchronized laser oscillation generating in the interferometer element are composed of reflecting mirrors 2 formed inside of the end faces of the element. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
