<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simplify data erasing processing of a non-volatile memory for backup wherein journal data which can be erased in the unit of blocks is stored. <P>SOLUTION: A commodity sales data processor is provided with a counting means for counting the volume of journal data and a non-volatile memory which has a plurality of storage areas and allows data to be erased in the unit of storage areas, and journal data is stored in the non-volatile memory. When journal data in the non-volatile memory is erased, a storage area wherein journal data is stored is specified on the basis of the volume of journal data counted by the counting means (step S13), and data stored in the specified storage area is erased (step S15).
