PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of adjusting the resonance frequency of a surface mount type antenna by which its resonance frequency and directivity can be easily adjusted. SOLUTION: The surface mount type antenna has an antenna element 3 having a capacitance-coupled feed electrode 6 and a radiation electrode 7, a ground electrode 8, etc. continuing to the radiation electrode 7; and an insulation board 2 having a ground conductor 1. The antenna element 3 is mounted on the surface of the board 2 to radiate radio waves from the radiation electrode 7 and the conductor 1 during feeding. The conductor 1 has a slit 11 to vary the path length of a current to adjust the resonance frequency. The slit 11 is located e.g. at a position near the ground electrode 8 for detouring the current flowing on the conductor 1 to increase the path length of the current, resulting in a lower resonance frequency. The orientation and the shape of the slit 11 may be selected adequately to intentionally change the direction of the current flowing along the slit 11, thereby the directivity of the radio waves is made adjustable.
