<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means that can remarkably improve the photoelectric conversion efficiency of an photoelectric transfer element by applying to the photoelectric conversion element that uses an ionic liquid for the electrolyte layer, and to provide its usage. <P>SOLUTION: A photoelectric conversion element uses a semiconductor electrode that carries an organic color element compound as a photosensitizer and an onium salt having a group of atoms that can be charged to negative on a semiconductor layer, and a semiconductor electrode that is photosensitized with an electrolyte layer containing an ionic liquid. The semiconductor electrode is the one explained as above. Furthermore, a solar battery using the photoelectric conversion element is provided.
