摘要 <P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ZrB<SB>2</SB>-based powder capable of increasing the electrical resistance of a refractory material containing the ZrB<SB>2</SB>-based powder and its treatment method; a refractory material and its production method; a melting furnace lining material; and a melting furnace and its production method. <P>SOLUTION: The refractory material 20 is produced by a process comprising the step of heating a ZrB<SB>2</SB>-based powder 11 as the refractory raw material in the air at a specified temperature for a specified time to subject the powder to an oxidation treatment to form a non-conductive ZrO<SB>2</SB>-based ceramic layer 12 on the surface of the ZrB<SB>2</SB>-based powder and the step of removing, by cleaning, a glass component generated simultaneously with the ZrO<SB>2</SB>-based ceramic layer in the oxidation treatment.
