PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a drainage apparatus using a horizontal shaft pump for reducing residual water in a suction channel by lowering the lowest suction water level to start air suction while reducing the civil engineering cost by reducing the excavation depth of the suction channel corresponding to a suction water tank. SOLUTION: A horizontal shaft pump 1 has a horizontal axis C, and a drive unit is accommodated in a cylindrical pump casing 2 with both end portions thereof in the axial direction opened. A suction port 3 at one end part of the cylindrical pump casing 2 faces a suction channel 9 of a closed section structure, and a downward expansion portion 13 with the lower limit position P1 in a vicinity of the suction port 3 at one end part lower than the upper limit position P2 of the suction port 3 byΔh4 is provided on a ceiling 12 of the suction channel 9. Further, at the immediately upstream position of the suction port 3, inclined surfaces 14 and 14 to gradually reduce the sectional area of the suction channel 9 by gradually reducing the width of the suction channel 9 from the upstream side to the suction port 3 at one end part are provided.
