PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that in a garbage treatment apparatus using microorganisms, when garbage containing a large amount of water is charged, excess water is contained in the garbage, and odors are increased. SOLUTION: The garbage treatment apparatus is composed of a microorganism treatment tank 2 which has agitating means 4 and 5, houses the microorganisms 6, and decomposes the garbage 19 by the microorganisms, a retention apparatus 7 which is installed on the inlet side of the tank 2 and retains the charged garbage 19, and a blower 13 for supplying outside air to the garbage 19 retained in the retention apparatus 7. Even when the garbage which is insufficiently drained and rich in water is charged, the garbage can be dried previously by the retention apparatus 7. The garbage treatment apparatus which prevents the excess of water of a microorganism carrier 6 etc., controls the generation of odors, and has stable decomposition performance can be materialized.
