PURPOSE: A character inputting method of a mobile communication terminal is provided to allow a user to easily input special character in creating a message including an emoticon showing emotions or information by combining special characters. CONSTITUTION: A user selects a special character input mode in a character edition mode. And then, the user selects desired characters displayed on or around buttons and presses them. In this case, when a first character, among characters allocated to each button, is selected, the user presses the button one time. In the case of the second character, the user presses twice. In the case of the third character, the user presses three times. After the desired characters are selected, they are displayed on a text message input screen. If the characters are what the user desires, the user presses a right arrow key to move a cursor to the next key and keeps inputting characters. After a desired letter is inputted, the user presses a directional key to move the cursor to the next character input position to edit letters.
