PURPOSE: A mobile communication terminal for tuning an instrument and a method thereof are provided to tune a string instrument with a mobile communication terminal by providing frequencies for experimentally verified optimum sounds to the mobile communication terminal. CONSTITUTION: A key pad(11) receives a user's command with respect to tuning of a guitar. A microphone(12) receives sounds generated from strings of the guitar. An A/D converter(13) converts an analog sound of the guitar into a digital signal. A frequency counter(14) counts frequencies of the digital sound of the guitar. A controller(15) compares a size of a reference frequency of strings designated by a user and a size of the counted frequencies of the sound of the guitar and controls display of the frequency difference. An LCD screen(16) displays the difference in size between the reference frequency and the frequency of the sound currently generated from the guitar.
