PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal vapor discharge lamp with a more radiant quantity at a near-infrared region than a high-pressure discharge lamp, as well as a floodlight device, a vehicle head light and a metal vapor discharge lamp lighting device using the discharge lamp.

SOLUTION: A luminous tube L equipped with an airtight vessel 1 with heat resistance and light transmittance, a pair of electrodes 3, 3 fitted to the airtight vessel 1, and a discharge medium including a halide and rare gas sealed in the airtight vessel 1 with a radiation output at lighting mainly in a near-infrared region (750 to 1,100 nm) is used for the metal vapor discharge lamp L1, which is used for the floodlight device, the vehicle head light 8 and the metal vapor discharge lamp lighting device.
