<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a branching filter in which the bandwidth of a selected wavelength is variable and the center wavelength of the bandwidth of the selected wavelength is controllable independently from the bandwidth of the selected wavelength and an optical switching device using the same. <P>SOLUTION: In this branching filter, the bandwidth of the selected wavelength is variable by performing the medium refractive index control of the branching filter with liquid crystal, the voltage apprecation to material indicating an electrooptic effect, light, temperature, the shape change of a mirror and the change of the number of layers of the multilayered structure of refractive index modulation and the bandwidth of the selected wavelength and the center wavelength of the bandwidth of the selected wavelength are controllable indepedently by providing a mechanism for controlling the center wavelength of the bandwidth of the selected wavelength independently . Since it is possible to control the wavelength pass-band and the the center wavelength of the wavelength pass-band optionally by mounting the branching filter on an optical switching device, it makes the optical switching to be an optical switching device in which the setting of pass-bands and the setting of center wavelengths of the pass-bands are satisfied. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO</p> |
