PURPOSE: A method for playing caption on an optical disc device is provided to selectively repeat playback by classifying words in caption data read from a DVD(Digital Versatile Disc) into a preset level of each word, and deciding playback times and order of each word. CONSTITUTION: In case that a user requests a playback operation on a state that level information of each word is stored in a database, a microcomputer performs a general data playback operation(S11). In the case that the user requests a leveled caption playback operation during the playback operation, the microcomputer reads the caption data and changes a playback mode to a still mode(S12). After decoding the caption data, the microcomputer performs the operation to search/check the level of the word in the caption data(S14). The microcomputer decides the level of each checked word, decides a playback order of the words corresponding to the decided level, and stores the caption data stored in a memory(S15). The words stored in the memory are gradually displayed to a screen from a blank state in the order of the word level and the decided playback order(S16).
