PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a brake pad having adequate pore constitution when using the brake pad at a high temperature from the early stage immediately after production. SOLUTION: The method for producing the brake pad comprises carrying out thermoforming by using a fiber substrate selected from an inorganic fiber, an organic fiber and a metal fiber, a friction controlling agent, a filler and a binder resin as raw materials. In the production method, the raw material composed of the fiber substrate, the friction controlling agent, the filler and the binder resin is mixed with a substance causing thermal decomposition or sublimation at≥160°C and <200°C at a ratio of≥5 wt.% and≤30 wt.% to provide the mixture and the mixture is thermally formed and then cured.
