PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head drum assembly of a tape recorder which allows assembling capability to be enhanced and the cost to be reduced by the improvement of a preload method of a bearing and a preload structure. SOLUTION: This assembly comprises a shaft, a rotating drum which supports magnetic heads to record and reproduce information by scanning a travelling magnetic tape, a fixed drum which is pressed and fixed to a lower portion of the shaft to be put in a bearing hole of the rotating drum together with the rotating drum, an upper bearing and a lower bearing provided between the rotating drum and shaft, and preload means for applying preloads to the upper bearing and the lower bearing, respectively.
