摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal optical element which has a high aperture ratio, wide viewing angle characteristics and excellent productivity and effectively suppresses a light coloring phenomenon and a method for manufacturing the liquid crystal optical element which has the high aperture ratio, the wide viewing angle characteristics and the excellent productivity. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal optical element is provided with a pair of substrates 10, 20, a liquid crystal layer 30 disposed between them and a pair of electrode layers 12, 22 respectively disposed on the liquid crystal layer 30 sides of the substrates 10, 20 and placed opposite to each other via the liquid crystal layer 30 and is provided with a pair of switching layers 16, 26 respectively containing molecules 16a, 26a of which the alignment directions change along a surface in parallel to layer surfaces of the liquid crystal layer 30 corresponding to voltage applied between a pair of the electrode layers 12, 22. A state of alignment in the liquid crystal layer 30 is changed corresponding to change of alignment directions of the molecules 16a, 26a contained in a pair of the switching layers 16, 26. The molecules 16a contained in the one switching layer 16 and the molecules 26a contained in the other switching layer 26 mutually behave as enantiomer. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
