ABLATION CATHETER HAVING STABILIZED ARRAY AND METHOD FOR MEDICAL TREATMENT OF ATRIAL FIBRILLATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a circumferential direction ablation catheter that promotes the stabilization of an ablation element in pulmonary veins or other areas.

SOLUTION: The circumferential ablation catheter has a slender tubular catheter body (12) and an ablation assembly (14) provided at the distal end section of the catheter body. The ablation assembly has a circumferential ablation element and an expandable balloon (26) which is provided to surround the ablation element and can be adjusted between a radial crushing position and a radial expanding position. The catheter also has a stabilized assembly (17) attached to the catheter on the distal side of the ablation assembly. The stabilized assembly can come into contact with a tubular area as the whole of the heart or a plurality of sites positioned around an inner peripheral section near the heart.
