PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a signal multiplication method of an encoder for detecting the position and the speed of an AC servomotor capable of determining a multiplication position with higher resolution than the resolution of an A/D converter. SOLUTION: In this encoder for amplifying cosine and sine signals acquired from a sensor (step 1), performing A/D conversion by the A/D converter (step 2), determining the multiplication position, and detecting the position and the speed of the AC servomotor, the cosine and sine signals are allowed to contain optionally a noise component which is a fine signal having a far higher frequency than the signals (step 2-1), and then the multiplication position is calculated (step 3).
