A composition containing an effective amount of agents with pediculicidal properties comprising at least one wax compound selected from the group consisting of beeswax, paraffin, carnauba and combinations thereof and at least one vegetable oil such as, canola or olive oil or a combination thereof, is disclosed. The composition is made from a mixture of the components in a ratio of approximately 100:1 w/v wax to oil. A method of applying a pediculicide composition to the hair or skin for the control of adults and nits of the species of the order Anoplura is also disclosed. The waxy/sticky composition is to be washed out after it has been applied to the affected site and left for 4 to 12 hours or more.
