PURPOSE: A deinterlacing device is provided to deinterlace an HD(High Definition) image signal with high resolution by using more than two buffers, thereby reducing buffer capacities and/or the number of buffers necessary for deinterlacing existing HD image signals without deterioration of picture quality. CONSTITUTION: A mode decider(110) compares resolution of an inputted image signal with a preset reference value to decide a mode of the image signal, and outputs different plural motion vectors by field unit. Multiplexers(132,134) inputs pixel information consisting of pixel values of interpolated pixels, the motion vectors, and many scanning lines located in previous/next fields from a field storage(120), and output the inputted pixel information. Demultiplexers(142,144) output the pixel information. Motion compensators(150,160,170,180) calculate time interpolation values of the interpolated pixels, motion information, and SADs(Summed Absolute Values) by using the pixel information, and have buffers(152,162,172,182) for processing image signals on a standard picture quality mode. An adaptive selector(190) adaptively mixes the time interpolation value with a spatial interpolation value based on the SADs and the motion information, and outputs the mixed values.
