PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a threading milling tool which facilitates the formation of a high-quality/long-life screw. SOLUTION: The threading milling tool 10 has a proximal shank 14 and a distal cutting portion 12. The cutting portion includes at least one threading milling tooth 20 and at least one flute 16 helically or spirally oriented about the central rotational axis 22 of the tool. The cutting portion may be configured to form internal or external threads in a workpiece as the cutting portion moves relative to the workpiece. The tooth of the thread milling tool has a negative tapered angle or back taper to offset the deflection of the tool during milling operations. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO |
