PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a sintered surface-nitrided compact in which a surface reforming effect is enhanced and the time for nitriding treatment can be shortened while using the conventional nitriding method for surface reforming of cermet and sintered hard alloy. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the sintered surface nitrided compact includes: a molding step of forming raw material powder to a compression molded body; a metal deposition treatment step of exposing the compression molded body into an organic metallic compound stream in a furnace to pyrolyze the organic metallic compound and depositing nitride-forming metal within the compression molded body; and a nitriding and sintering step of nitriding the compression molded body by using mitriding gas and sintering the same. The nitriding is promoted prior to compaction by sintering through the open pores existing near the surface of the compression molded body, and the nitride is formed on the surface of the sintered compact by deposition of the easily nitridable metal thereon by the above manufacturing method.
