The Stirling engine consists of expansion and compression chambers (1, 2) containing oscillating pistons (9, 10) connected by rods (11, 12) to a lever (13, 14) and crank mechanismn to produce a continuous angular movement. The pistons are prismatic in shape, and the chambers are in the form of sectors of a cylinder with a preferable angle of between 45 and 90 degrees. The pistons have parallel or divergent edges and taper from their axes to their other ends; their faces have turbulence grooves.
