PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plate making method which can effectively process a planographic printing plate original film and a blank plate original film without preparing separate development processing lines for both the originals and, even more, shorten the time required for plate making processing simultaneously while maintaining a plate making grade stable to both the originals having different material compositions. SOLUTION: The plate making method comprises making the planographic printing plate original film and the blank plate original film by successively passing both the originals as plate materials to be processed through the respective processing sections of a plate making system provided with an exposure processing section (a plate setter 10) for subjecting both the originals to exposure processing by irradiation with infrared rays, a heat treatment section (a heating oven 40) for subjecting the originals to heat treatment, and a development processing section (an automatic developing machine 60) for subjecting the originals to development processing. The method is so arranged as to identify whether the plate material to be processed is the planographic printing plate original film or the blank plate original film and to eject the blank plate original film to the heat treatment section without performing the exposure processing in the exposure processing section when the plate material to be processed is the blank plate original film.
