PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent stall of a diffuser for a centrifugal pump and deterioration in pump efficiency. SOLUTION: An opening 48 is provided at a prescribed position in the chord length direction of a vane 42 for the diffuser 44. The opening 48 communicates with a diffuser flow passage adjacent thereto and prevents stall by generating a flow circulated to an inlet of the diffuser through the opening 48 when a flow rate is decreased and increasing an apparent flow rate. Also, the opening 48 is adjusted to the size corresponding to operating condition of the pump. The size of the opening 48 is made small so that stall may not occur at minimum flow specified by trial operation of the pump. Deterioration in efficiency caused by providing the opening can be prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
