[Also in Group XXV] A device for operating hatch covers comprises a hydraulically operated jack 110, see Fig. 7, which is pivoted at 111 to the deck 107 and has its jackrod 112 pivotally attached at 114 to one end of a link 113 the other end of which is pivoted at 115 to a lug 116 extending from a hatch cover panel 102 hinged at 104 to the hatchway. A guide link 118 is pivoted at one end 119 to the hatchway structure, its other end being pivotally attached to an intermediate portion of the link 113. A second panel 101 is connected at one edge to the panel 102 by a hinge 103, rollers 109 being provided at its other edge. As the jack extends the panel 102 is swung through 180 degrees in a clockwise direction about its pivot 104, the panel 101 pivoting about the hinge 103 to lie, at the end of the motion, on top of the panel 102. In another embodiment, see Figs. 1 and 2, a pair of hatch cover panels 1 and 2, are hinged together at 3, the jack 7 is pivoted at 8 to the panel 2, while the first link 11, pivoted to the jack rod at 10, is pivoted at 12 to the panel proper to be actuated, i.e. panel 1. A link 13 is pivoted at its ends to the first link at 15, and to the panel 2 at 14, respectively. As the jack extends the panel I is rotated anti-clockwise, to the position shown in Fig. 1, its edge moving along the hatchway coaming on rollers 16, the panel 2 being consequently rotated in the opposite sense about its fixed hinge 4. |
