PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus for executing shading correction processing, where a variation in the quantity of light of a light source in the subscan direction of a manuscript image is eliminated. SOLUTION: Reference data generated based on reflection light of the light source from the white reference plate are changed, based on a G component in image data outputted from a line correction section 34. Based on the changed reference data, the image data acquired, based on the reflection light from the manuscript image, are corrected by shading correction sections 35a, 35b, and 35c.
