The specification relates to a cis-stilbene prodrug (as shown below) where, R1, R2 and R3 are each independently alkyl; R4 is alkyl, haloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkythio, alkylsulphinyl, alkylsulphonyl or halo; R5 is hydrogen, alkoxy, alkyl, alkylthio, hydroxyl or halo; and X is a group that can be removed in vivo by hydrolysis. The composition of this drug can be used in the treatment of diseases involving neovascularisation including, cancer, diabetic retinopathy, psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, artherosclerosis or macular degeneration.
