879,960. Trimming moulded thermoplastic tubes &C. AMERICAN CAN CO. Feb. 17 1960 [March 31, 1959], No. 5635/60. Class 87(2)' A moulded thermoplastic tube A is trimmed by knives 33, rotated by a shaft 25, in a cutting head 14 which is lowered by a cam 18 to position the bottom 69 of the head against the tube A. As the head is lowered, it operates a control which causes an air motor 43 to operate at a higher speed. When the shaft 25 is rotated at this higher speed, weights 41 are swung outwardly and this movement causes the knives 33 to move inwardly into cutting engagement with the tube. Springs 36 hold the knives in the inoperative position during the slower rotation of the shaft 25. The cut-off part D is removed by suction through the shaft 25. |
