PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a construction method for remodeling an indoor space by removing an intermediate column. SOLUTION: A horizontal force, which is borne by an inside frame of an existing building, is reduced, for example, by aseismically strengthening the frame of the outer peripheral part of the existing building or introducing a base-isolating device. A temporary support is installed in a position near the intermediate column to be removed in the inside frame of the existing building, so that a girder, substituted for the intermediate column, can be temporarily supported; a head part of the intermediate column is cut and removed; and both ends of the girder are dismantled up to a simply supported state. A cable and the like are installed on the side surface part of the girder in such a manner as to be arranged so that a central part of the girder can be hung. The cable and the like are tensioned in the positions of both the ends of the girder, so that post-tension can be introduced and so that the bending moment of the end of the girder and that of the column can be reduced. Dismantled places at both ends of the girder are restored to a rigidly jointed state, and the temporary support is removed. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO
