PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of yielding an excellent image free from faulty transfer and the occurrence of a residual image and yielding a high-quality full color image even in the case of consecutively forming the image. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus has an image carrier 11, an electrifying means 13, an exposure means 20, a developing means 30, an intermediate transfer body 41, a primary transfer means 45 and a secondary transfer means 51, and has a residual toner electrifying means 42 coming into contact with the transfer body 41 and electrifying a residual toner image on the transfer body 41 after secondary transfer to have a polarity reverse to a normal electrification polarity, and the transfer body 41 is cleaned by transiting the residual toner electrified to have the polarity reverse to the the image carrier 11 when the residual toner passes through a primary transfer part. Then, The absolute value of the electrification amount of the toner on the developing roller 32 of the developing means 30 is 5 to 40μC/g and the absolute value of primary transfer bias applied to the transfer means 45 is≤1,000V.
