PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a water-based rustproofing coating capable of forming resin coating film with good rustproofness, processability and adhesion, and to provide a metallic material coated therewith. SOLUTION: The water-based rustproofing coating contains a total of 100mass% of (A) 98-40mass% of a polyester resin≥4,000 in number-average molecular weight, 8-40mgKOH/g in acid value and≥80mol% in the content of terephthalic acid as the polybasic acid component, (B) 1-30mass% of an epoxy compound≤5mass% in solubility to water at 25°C and (C) 1-30mass% of a melamine resin.
