PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transition metal complex useful as a catalyst component for polymerizing an olefin in an industrial process. SOLUTION: The transition metal complex or polymerization catalyst is represented by general formula (1) (wherein, M denotes Ti or the like; A denotes O or the like; X1and X2denote each a hydrogen, a halogen, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group, an aralkyl group, an aralkyloxy group or a substituted amino group; R1, R2, R3and R4denote each a hydrogen, an alkyl group, an aryl group or an aralkyl group; R5, R6and R7denotes each a hydrogen, a halogen, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group, an aralkyl group, an aralkyloxy group, a silyl group or a substituted amino group; R8denotes a halogen, an alkyl group, an alkoxy group, an aryl group, an aryloxy group, an aralkyl group, an aralkyloxy group, a substituted silyl group or a substituted amino group; and X1and X2, adjacent R1, R2, R3, R4or adjacent R5, R6, R7and R8may mutually bond to form a ring).
