PURPOSE: A method for providing an enhanced roaming service and a mobile communication system are provided to omit an unnecessary operation and reduce power consumption by comparing a previously roaming list and a valid roaming list to determine whether to perform a scanning. CONSTITUTION: When an MS(Mobile Station) receives a valid roaming list(11), the MS recognizes the valid roaming list(13) and checks whether a system ID of a sub-PLMN(Public Land Mobile Network) having a higher roaming priority than a sub-PLMN currently providing a wireless service is included in the valid roaming list(15). If a system ID of a sub-PLMN having the higher roaming priority is included in the list, the MS is synchronized with a signal of an arbitrary sub-PLMN among adjacent sub-PLMNs in lapse of a certain time, obtains the system ID, and compares a roaming priority of the arbitrary sub-PLMN with that of the sub-PLMN currently providing the wireless service(17). If the roaming priority of the arbitrary sub-PLMN has a higher roaming priority than the sub-PLMN currently providing the service(19), the MS performs a location registration to the sub-PLMN with the higher roaming priority and performs a roaming(21). |
