PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk device and a connected equipment discriminating method for deciding whether or not each function of firmware by acquiring information on a host is operable and for discriminating hosts. SOLUTION: An optical disk device which is connected to host equipment via an interface and records/reproduces information on and from an optical disk. The device comprises a receiving means 22 for receiving a signal indicating a specified host equipment 7 from the specified host equipment 7; a recognizing means 39 for recognizing that the connected host equipment is the specified host equipment 7, based on the signal received by the receiving means 22; and a control means 39 for allowing only the specified host equipment 7 to execute read processing, if it is recognized by the recognizing means 39 that the connected host equipment is the specified host equipment 7.
