PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an advanced method for detecting a code limited in the middle area (e.g., image area) of a film strip. SOLUTION: In a photographing method, it is determined that a set of captured images includes one or more encoded captured images having partial shading codes. Partial shading is partial shadowing, partial filtering or combination of the both. The code has a predetermined edge pattern and is located within a predetermined sub-area in the image. The encoded captured image is digitized to provide a digital image having a plurality of pixels. A plurality of pixel templates of the edge pattern and pixels within the sub-area of the digital image are rolled in to provide a plurality of template location metrics.
